Savage Eden

Interesting aside in the Straight's Koyaanisqatsi preview / Philip Glass interview:

[H]e's [likely] going to spend another year working on Reggio's next film, which is still in the planning stages.

"It's going to be called Savage Eden, and Godfrey wants to make the subject matter what he calls 'the two isms' of today," Glass reports. "And this is where Godfrey is really head and shoulders above everybody else. He gets it down to two things: consumerism and fundamentalism. He says, 'These are the two forces driving the world, and this is what is happening.' It's a very radical way of thinking, and yet at the same time, we can see it. You see it every minute that you look at the news."

I just hope someone keeps Reggio away from the digital filters and effects - for me, Naqoyqatsi really suffered from an overuse of processing.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Mr. Reggio two summers ago and he was in the middle of getting the project into motion.
For the record, he was an absolute gentleman who was very generous with his time and had absolutely no pretense about himself. I cannot say enough good things about him.
I must agree, however, that the last movie left me wondering a bit.
